Classroom Environment
A positive classroom environment lets students know they are safe and that as their teacher I care about each of them as individuals. It is important to make feel students feel welcome and comfortable by greeting them at the door with a smile each day, addressing them by name. At the beginning of the year, I will often focus on positive social skills that I expect from my students. Texts, reenactments, and circle time discussions will provide opportunities for everyone to learn how they should treat others and expect to be treated. Student diversity will be celebrated through the sharing of All About Me projects, family visitors, and classroom materials and displays. I will model the desired behaviors by using kind words with my students and remaining calm in times of conflict.
Families will also be made to feel welcome in our classroom at any time. I will begin the year by soliciting information from families on their expectations for the upcoming year. I will let families know how important it is that they be involved in their child's education and encourage partnerships between us. Volunteers will be encouraged once our class has established our daily routine. Positive notes or phone calls home will be made frequently. I will also maintain regular communication with families through newsletters and parent information boards. By partnering with families and building positive rapport with them, their children will feel good about being a part of our classroom community.
